In 2018/19, the Stadhuismuseum in Zierikzee organized an exhibition of seventeenth-century paintings by Zeeland masters. In the following year, 2019/20 an exhibition was staged of  work by the Middelburg painter Franchoys Ryckhals (1609-1647) for which Fred Meijer wrote the accompanying monograph on the artist. The museum decided to follow up with a variety of themes around painting in Zeeland in the seventeenth century. On 18th January 2023, an exhibition opened on still-life painting in Zeeland in the Golden Age, running until 19 November this year. Again, Fred G. Meijer wrote the accompanying publication, Stillevens door Zeeuwse Meesters uit de Gouden Eeuw (published by W Books, like the previous four publications in this series). Published in Dutch, the book has 136 illustrations (mainly) in colour and it includes a lexicon of still-life painters working in Zeeland in the seventeenth century, in Dutch and in English. In the exhibition, still lifes by such masters as Ambrosius Bosschaert I, Franchoys Ryckhals, Hendrick Andriessen, Philips Angel, Laurens Craen, Cornelis Stangerus, Cornelis Lelienbergh, Adriaen Verdoel II, and Adriaen Coorte are included.

The exhibition and the lovely town of Zierikzee are well worth a visit and the book is a must for all interested in Netherlandish still/life painting from the seventeenth century.

The museum Dordts Patriciërshuis in Dordrecht is celebrating its tenth anniversary with an exhibition of ten flower paintings from the period it is devoted to: the decades around 1800. To accompany this exhibition, Fred G. Meijer wrote a book/catalogue, Bloemstillevens uit Dordrecht 1750-1825 en hun voorlopers , about flower painting in Dordrecht during this period, separate entries to the exhibited works (by Joris Ponse, Abraham van Strij, Cornelis Kuipers, Jan Kelderman, Willem van Leen, Pieter Hofman, and an anonymous artist), as well as an opening essay on flower painting in Dordrecht during the previous period, 1600-1750. Apart from the wonderful pair by Cornelis Kuipers in the museum's own collection, the exhibited works include loans from the Dordrechts Museum and various private collections. The 80-page book, with a preface by the museum's founder, Laurens Gooshouwer, is lavishly illustrated, but, unfortunately, only available in Dutch. The exhibition  In de Floria opened on September 14th and will run until March 26th, 2023.
